The LIFE IP DUERO Project seeks to manage the water resources of the Duero River basin.
Innovative, sustainable, participatory and exportable solutions are proposed to the rest of the river basins.
From the beginning of the Project, experimental plots with alternative crops to those traditionally used in this region were established.
As an alternative, woody species with lower demand of water and other inputs are proposed. Those species generate products of greater market value and with the capacity to generate a circular economy in the area.
Within the alternative crops plan, informative days were given to farmers in the area, exposing the species that optimize the objectives to be met and that will provide better expectations to the rural environment.
The choice of alternative crops will allow the creation of a circular economy, with lower production costs and capable of generating jobs.
